The UK Ministry of Defence has recently unveiled a series of classified documents from the 1970s concerning sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) over British skies.
Commonly referred to as “flying saucers” or UFOs, these are unusual aerial phenomena that many believe to be sent by extraterrestrial civilizations.
The Ministry of Defence noted that reports of UFO sightings are still being made to the authorities today.
They began recording such reports 30 years ago. At that time, the frequency of UFO sightings was about 40 times a month, but now it has increased to over 50 times a month.
In a disclosure made on October 31, 2005, the UK Ministry of Defence did not confirm that these were “flying saucers” from outer space, as many have assumed. The documents related to this topic will continue to be declassified.
This agency only records reports. According to the data, many sightings over the British Isles include bright silver discs or cigar-shaped objects. Both types sometimes exhibit a hollow center. They usually fly in an arc or ascend and descend at high speeds.
Many experts believe that most of these incidents are simply weather balloons released by meteorological agencies for atmospheric measurements, or fragments of meteorites and space debris entering the atmosphere. There are also cases where aircraft are viewed from unusual angles, or simply unusual cloud formations.
However, there are also some cases that remain unexplained. In 1977, the crew of a British Vulcan strategic bomber reported to their superiors about a phenomenon they observed while flying at high altitude during a night mission. It was a strange luminous halo, hovering alongside their aircraft.
The aircraft’s radar registered an unusually strong echo and rapid movement. Flight documents indicated that there were no other aircraft in the area that night.
