Before creating a border, you need to select the text (highlight it).
Method 1: Click on the icon
for table borders (This method does not allow you to choose different border styles).
Method 2:
1. Go to Format Border and Shading…
2. The Border and Shading dialog box will appear; select the Border tab:
- Setting: Border style:
- None: No border
- Box: Standard border style
- Shadow: Shadow border style
- 3-D: 3D border style.
- Custom: Custom border style (For example: You can choose different styles, colors, or thickness for each side).
- Style: Border line style.
- Color: Border color
- Width: Border width (thick or thin)
- Apply to: Apply to:
- Text: Each line has a border.
- Paragraph: Each paragraph has a border
- Show Toolbar button: Displays the Tables and Borders toolbar for border adjustments.
- Horizontal Line button… => Opens the Horizontal Line dialog: Choose the style of the horizontal border.
- Options button… => Opens the Border and Shading Options dialog: Change some properties regarding the distance from text to border line.
3. Click OK to complete the border creation for the selected text.
Filling the Background Color for the Bordered Text
1. Go to Format Border and Shading…
2. The Border and Shading dialog will appear, select the Shading tab:
– Fill: Choose the background color
– More Colors button… expands the color options
– Style: Choose the style with small dots on the colored background.
– Color: Color of the small dots.
– The Preview area displays the selected features.3. Click OK to finish filling the background color.
