The U.S. Coast Guard has recovered remnants of the Titan submersible and discovered human remains inside.
The Titan submersible, owned by OceanGate Expeditions, was on a mission to explore the wreck of the Titanic on June 18. However, after descending to the North Atlantic seabed for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, the vessel lost communication.
On board the Titan were five individuals, including Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate Expeditions and the pilot of the submersible exploring the Titanic wreck at a depth of 3,800 meters.
Authorities investigating the incident reported that the vessel experienced a malfunction and exploded. All five individuals aboard the 6.7-meter-long Titan perished.
The legendary Titanic sank at a depth of 3,800 meters off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, in 1912. At the time of the disaster, the Titanic was carrying 2,224 passengers and crew members. More than 1,500 of them lost their lives.
The wreck of the Titanic was discovered by the U.S. Navy on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean in 1985 and subsequently became a famous tourist destination for adventurers.

On June 28, the U.S. Coast Guard announced that they had located the wreckage of the Titan and the human remains inside the submersible. On October 10 (U.S. time), the Coast Guard further reported that they had salvaged additional remnants and discovered human remains within the debris.
“Human remains have been carefully recovered from the wreckage of the Titan and are currently being analyzed by U.S. medical experts,” the U.S. Coast Guard shared.
The human remains and debris from the Titan are scattered at a depth of 3,800 meters, approximately 488 meters from the legendary Titanic wreck.
Notably, U.S. authorities also recovered a part of the Titan that is nearly intact. This image has been widely released by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Maritime Investigation Board stated that they will continue to analyze and interview witnesses prior to a public hearing regarding the tragedy, according to AP news agency.
