According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the Northern region is expected to experience a period of moderate to heavy rain in the coming days, starting from the evening of June 5 to June 10.
In the Hanoi area, yesterday (June 3), there was also a heat wave with maximum temperatures commonly reaching 35-36 degrees Celsius, and some places exceeding 36 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity was generally low, ranging from 55-65%. The temperature exceeded 35 degrees Celsius from 1 PM to 4 PM.
According to the National Hydro-Meteorological Center, this is the first widespread heat wave of the year in the Northern region; however, its intensity is not too severe as there will still be occasional rain in the evening and night. Although the heat will gradually increase in the Northern and Central regions throughout June, the number of hot days is expected to be lower than the long-term average.
Heavy Rain Returns to the North
The heat in the Northern provinces is forecasted to continue in the coming days. However, starting from the night of June 5, heavy rain will return to the Northern provinces.
Specifically, according to forecasts from the National Hydro-Meteorological Center, from June 5, the heat in the Northern region is expected to ease, with a possibility of moderate to heavy rain, accumulating rainfall of 150-300mm, and some areas exceeding 350mm during the following days. The rain is expected to begin from the evening of June 5 to June 10.
Forecast: Moderate to heavy rain will return to the North.
However, today (June 4), the midland and delta areas of the Northern region, including Son La and Hoa Binh provinces, will continue to experience heat with maximum temperatures commonly between 35-36 degrees, and some places exceeding 36 degrees; other areas in the North will experience localized heat.
From Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, there will be heat, with some areas experiencing severe heat with maximum temperatures generally ranging from 35-37 degrees, and some places exceeding 38 degrees. The relative humidity will be low, ranging from 50-65%. The temperature is expected to exceed 35 degrees from 1 PM to 5 PM.
Hanoi Area: Today (June 4), there will be heat with maximum temperatures commonly between 35-36 degrees, with some places exceeding 36 degrees. The relative humidity will generally be low, ranging from 55-65%. The temperature is expected to exceed 35 degrees from 1 PM to 4 PM. This evening (June 4), there is a possibility of thunderstorms and rain; during the storms, there may be whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
In the Central region, the heat will continue in the coming days, while in the North Central region, the heat is expected to gradually ease starting June 6.
Regarding the weather trends for June 2022 across the country, the Hydro-Meteorological Center stated that the severe heat in the Northern region will arrive later than usual this year. It is forecasted that the first heat wave will not occur until late June and will mainly take place in July and August 2022.
Since May 2022, the Northeast region and Hanoi have not recorded any days with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius since the beginning of the year. The main reason for this situation is that the weather in the early summer months in the North is influenced by the La Niña phenomenon (cold phase sea surface temperatures in the central Pacific) with a probability of 50-60%.
Meanwhile, the average temperature in June 2022 in the Northern region is forecasted to be lower than the long-term average by 0.5-1.0 degrees Celsius, and in the North Central region by about 0.5 degrees Celsius.
