The Chinese cobra is a venomous snake belonging to the cobra family. This species is distributed in southeastern China, northern Vietnam, Laos, and India. The primary diet of the Chinese cobra includes frogs, toads, various rodents, and other snake species.
The average length of the Chinese cobra ranges from 1.2 to 1.5 meters. Although it possesses strong venom, like many other venomous snakes, the Chinese cobra usually avoids humans and only attacks when threatened. It will raise the front half of its body and flare its hood, hissing to intimidate its adversaries.
The venom of the Chinese cobra contains Cardiotoxin (a toxin that affects the heart) and Neurotoxin (a toxin that affects the nervous system). Although it is not a member of the spitting cobra family, some Chinese cobras can still spit venom.
A bite from a Chinese cobra can be fatal to an adult. If bitten and not treated promptly, the victim may experience necrosis at the bite site or die from heart failure and respiratory arrest.
