Previously, Mount Dun was granted a mining license by the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa province to Tien Thinh LLC. The licensed quarry area includes two entrances to the cave within Mount Dun (northwest side).

Results from the Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s inspection show that this is a cave with an underground stream flowing inside and many beautifully formed natural stalactites, which need to be preserved and promoted in connection with local tourism development. Stone quarrying at Mount Dun will directly affect the cave (the cave may be filled or collapse due to falling stones).

The temporary halt in quarrying will allow the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough assessment of Mount Dun due to the discovery of the new cave during the mining process.
Currently, the Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has issued a document assigning the Center for Historical Research and Cultural Heritage Conservation of Thanh Hoa to take the lead, in coordination with relevant agencies, to conduct a comprehensive survey and evaluation of the scale, value, historical significance, cultural heritage, and tourism potential (if any) of the cave, and report the results to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism by May 30.
