After the recent prolonged cold spell, winter has nearly come to an end across Northern Vietnam. The days of spring are gradually returning with characteristic weather patterns.
The North has concluded a historic cold snap that lasted several days. In recent days, temperatures across the region have shown signs of improvement, with cold weather persisting only at night and in the early morning. Starting today, February 28, temperatures in the North will continue to rise gradually.
As we enter March 2022, the cold air mass will gradually weaken in intensity. However, due to the influence of the eastern cold air, the northeastern region and Thanh Hóa are expected to experience many days of light rain, drizzle, and fog during the forecast period.
However, the air quality in the northern provinces remains poor during these days. The foggy weather, combined with high humidity levels of around 80-85%, further impacts the health of the population. Especially during this transitional season, the conditions are conducive to the spread of diseases. Elderly people, children, and particularly those infected with Covid-19 need to take care to protect their respiratory health.
In particular, in Hanoi, the air quality index has worsened in recent days.

According to the air quality monitoring application PAM Air, some locations in Hanoi have recorded AQI levels exceeding 200 – a purple level – which is extremely harmful to health, such as Mai Động, Thanh Xuân Bắc, Chùa Láng… Most monitoring points report AQI levels above 150, indicating a red alert for air pollution.
The air was very clean during the recent cold spell. However, air quality has begun to deteriorate since temperatures in the North improved. This is typical spring weather characterized by fog and cloudiness. Almost every year at this time, air pollution issues recur. Air quality only improves with the occurrence of rain and strong winds.
In the coming days, the pollution situation in the North is expected to persist, potentially worsening.
