If previously it took at least 2 weeks to identify fingerprints, now it only takes 30 minutes. A new technique is currently being tested in the United States.
A new fingerprint scanning technique could help investigative agencies collect fingerprints and determine if an individual has a criminal record in just 30 minutes or less.
With this technique, individuals simply need to roll their finger on a screen, and the fingerprint scanner will automatically capture the fingerprint as a digital image. This image is then sent to a database center via email for identification. The center will respond with information about the individual, also via email.
This method significantly saves investigation time, as the previous process would take at least 2 weeks.
The new scanner is currently being tested in Jefferson County, United States.
