Recently discovered gold artifacts in Bulgaria |
Bulgarian archaeologists have recently uncovered 15,000 pieces of solid gold jewelry dating back to the early 3rd millennium BC, potentially linked to the treasures of Troy.
Mr. Vasil Nikolov, a member of the archaeological team, stated that these treasures are estimated to be between 4,100 and 4,200 years old, excavated over several years from an ancient grave located in the center of the village of Dabene, approximately 120 km from Sofia, the capital.
Experts suggest that this “collection of gold jewelry” may belong to the Thracian people, who inhabited Bulgaria and parts of Greece, Romania, North Macedonia, and Turkey until the 8th century AD, before being assimilated by the Slavs.
This is the second collection of gold jewelry discovered in Bulgaria in recent years.
Mr. Nikolov noted, “These treasures are older than those found by Schliemann at Troy and include more gold decorations.” Heinrich Schliemann, a German amateur archaeologist, is credited with discovering the ancient site of Troy in 1868.
Currently, the oldest known collection of jewelry in the world consists of artifacts excavated near the Black Sea, dating back to the early 5th millennium BC.
