On the afternoon of October 28, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Hai signed a directive to implement an emergency action plan for the prevention and response to avian influenza and human flu.
Accordingly, he directed the People’s Committees of districts to coordinate with relevant departments to continue enforcing the ban on poultry and waterfowl farming in the area; advising small-scale farmers to immediately sell their flocks of chickens, with a deadline of November 10. For larger poultry farms, the deadline is extended to November 15 for complete sales.
Chairman Le Thanh Hai also ordered the suspension of bird watching activities at recreational areas and the cessation of bird trading (including the release of birds) across the city until further notice. District People’s Committees will be held accountable if illegal poultry farming, slaughtering, or trading persists in their jurisdictions.
Additionally, Chairman Le Thanh Hai instructed market management forces to urgently collaborate with police, veterinary services, and youth volunteers to conduct thorough inspections and timely address illegal poultry farming, transportation, and sales.
