The phenomenon of global warming is significantly impacting all countries. Spain is expected to bear the brunt of the damages in the latter years of the 21st century.
This conclusion was reached by Spanish climatologist Miguel de Araujo after conducting a study on the characteristics of future climates and their forecasts.
The survey is part of a project by the European Scientists Association, which specializes in researching the impacts of weather changes on Earth.
According to the survey results, by 2080, 30% of the population in Spain’s Mediterranean coastal areas will be victims of climate warming. They will face severe shortages of fresh water. The land, once a paradise of flora and greenery, will transform into a desert.
Spain will increasingly confront both major and minor droughts. These droughts are attributed to the influence of cyclonic air masses originating from Africa. At the same time, humid air masses from the Atlantic will redirect towards Northern Europe, resulting in significant flooding events.
The root cause of all these changes is the greenhouse effect impacting our planet, Mr. Araujo stated. Spain is one of the countries contributing to the acceleration of this process.
Although these are predictions for the future, Spanish scientists emphasize: “It is essential to identify future trends early, observe the phenomena that will occur, and choose effective solutions.”
