There are many different types of circles. The simplest form is a circle with ears of grain lying flat inside, yet they are not broken but rather wrapped around the roots. Sometimes, the circle appears in a double form, with the ears of grain in the outer circle also wrapping around the roots, but in the opposite direction to those in the inner circle. Occasionally, surrounding the central circle is a series of smaller rings (satellites), often connected to the main circle by “canals.” In other cases, smaller circles can be seen with ears of grain that do not wrap around the roots but lie tilted between the central circle and the outermost large circle.
Initially, it was believed that these strange circles only appeared in the southern part of England. However, as the media began to report on them, numerous similar reports from all over England and other countries emerged. Various hypotheses were continuously proposed, ranging from the cause being damage from hedgehogs or badgers to traces left by UFOs; from the aftermath of battles between flocks of birds to crops being infected by fungi; from over-fertilization to experiments with new types of weapons.
Pat Delgaldo and Colin Endrius proposed the hypothesis that these circles are a form of secret recording by a supreme universe. Meanwhile, Native American tribes in Arizona believe they are omens of a deadly threat looming over the world.
A more convincing hypothesis comes from Professor Dr. Miden, a British scientist. According to him, on the path of gusty winds, if there are mountains blocking the way, it creates air vortices. As a result, the vertical air on the leeward side of the mountain gets twisted into a spiral shape, compressing the air inside and creating an atmospheric electric current. When this phenomenon occurs in a field, the spiraling air will cause the ears of grain to bend down to the ground, forming circles. Along with the formation of these currents, a piercing whistling sound can be heard just before the circles are created.
Miden’s theory not only clarifies the physical processes behind the formation of these circles but also explains instances when these strange patterns appear right before the eyes of witnesses.
This occurred in August 1991 when Harri and Vivien Tomlison, living in Hambledon, were strolling through a field. Suddenly, they witnessed a very strange sight in the wheat field to their right. A mist enveloped the area, and they heard a strange whistling sound. Then, behind them, a whirlwind arose with such force that they struggled to remain standing. Harri’s hair stood on end, charged with static electricity. Suddenly, the swirling wind diminished and vanished. The mist lifted, leaving the two of them lying at the center of a circle amidst the bent ears of grain.
