Two wallaby individuals are being cared for at the Hoang Lien Conservation and Development Center located in Hoang Lien National Park (Lao Cai). They are experiencing stress due to a long-distance journey from Cao Bang to Lao Cai and facing frigid weather conditions. However, they are quickly adapting to their new environment.
Public Diplomacy officials from the Australian Embassy in Hanoi recently visited the Hoang Lien Conservation and Development Center to thank the staff for taking in and caring for the wallabies rescued from Cao Bang at the end of last year.
During the meeting, Dr. Tran Thu Nga, a veterinarian caring for the wallabies, shared that the wallaby individuals are stressed from the long journey from Cao Bang and are facing the cold winter in Sa Pa.
However, Dr. Nga also noted that although two wallaby individuals have died after a prolonged illness, the remaining two are adapting better to their new environment.

Mr. La Van Toi, Director of Hoang Lien Center, stated that Vietnam is a hotspot for the illegal trafficking and trade of wildlife. The wallaby is the first and only foreign species at the center.
The staff at the center hope that the Australian Embassy can help connect them with animal rescue organizations, experts, and volunteers to better care for the local flora and fauna, particularly the wallabies.

The Australian Embassy also provided financial support (80 million VND) to continue the care of the wallabies.
Hoang Lien National Park is renowned for its biodiversity, particularly for rare plant species found only in the Hoang Lien mountain range. The main role of the center is to receive, care for, train, and eventually release native wildlife back into their natural habitats.
