For Space Science Enthusiasts: Participate in the “Postcards from Venus” Art Contest
A new art competition has been launched in connection with the upcoming launch of the Venus Express probe, named after the Roman goddess of love, which is set to be sent to Venus on Wednesday, October 26. (Venus refers both to the planet and the goddess of love).
Participants in the contest are invited to create imaginary postcards depicting the surface of Venus from the aerial perspective of the probe, as it prepares to enter orbit around this Earth-sized planet.
The first prize for both age categories—under 17 and over 18—includes a free trip to the European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, in April 2006, coinciding with the expected arrival of the unmanned Venus Express probe at its destination.
This competition is organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Planetary Society, a non-profit organization based in the United States.
