The Color of the Year 2025 has been chosen by the Pantone Institute, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the upcoming fashion and art world.
As the year comes to a close, we not only see year-end summaries but also begin to observe predictions and trend forecasts.
As is customary each year, the Pantone Color Institute has recently announced Mocha Mousse or Pantone 17-1230 as the “Color of the Year 2025.” Mocha Mousse features an appealing brown hue that evokes images of chocolate, cocoa, and coffee.
This soft brown has been selected as the color of the year 2025.
This gentle brown tone is inspired by nature, making it suitable for the current trend towards natural and organic preferences, while also being associated with sustainability and a connection to the environment. As its name suggests, it alludes to enticing sweet treats like chocolate, coffee, and cocoa, reflecting a desire for comfort and pleasure.

We can expect Mocha Mousse to influence color combinations and designs in 2025 by balancing vibrant tones, adding a natural touch to spaces, and reinforcing its position in fashion as a neutral tone, standing alongside black, white, and deep navy.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, stated: “For Pantone’s Color of the Year 2025, we aim for a soft brown tone that embodies inherent richness and pleasant warmth, evoking a desire for comfort and the simple pleasures we can gift and share with others.”
She added: “A leading fashion color with rich neutrality, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expands our perception of brown, transforming it from humble and modest to luxurious and aspirational. Inspired by the warmth of the senses, it shines in soft weaves, leather and suede, soft velvet, cashmere, angora, and even in fluffy knits and fur, enveloping and comforting.”
This gentle color invites our senses into a state of delightful comfort, inspiring and appealing. “At the same time, with its soft appearance, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse pairs beautifully with light, airy fabrics like chiffon, silk textures, satin, and jersey, offering fluidity and elegance,” Laurie noted.
According to Laurie, Mocha Mousse also conveys refined sophistication in hair and beauty. “A soft brown with warm light enhances the inherent radiance of each skin tone across various base shades, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse embodies a desire for understated, authentic beauty and a minimalist appearance associated with simplicity,” she remarked. “Characterized by rustic elegance, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse promotes a pure and organic approach to luxury.”
Pantone describes this color as one that “can easily blend with any color, adding warmth and subtle sophistication to every outfit.”
The Color of the Year is selected by Pantone every December, with the first being the color Blue in 1999. The Color of the Year 2024 is 13-1023 Peach Fuzz.
