The American solar energy equipment manufacturer Power Panel has recently unveiled a portable off-grid solar device capable of providing electricity, water filtration, and hot water. Gen20 is the name of this innovative device.
Gen20 – Portable off-grid device providing electricity, water filtration, and hot water.
The Gen20 can produce 200 gallons (760 liters) of drinking water per hour without the need for an external power source. Recently, Gen20 units were deployed to challenging areas, such as Dos Bocas, a mountainous region severely affected by Category 5 Hurricane Maria.
This device has assisted three families in sharing power as they repair their homes after damage. Two additional Gen20 units were sent to Ukraine in February 2022 to support those on the front lines and humanitarian efforts.
The device consists of four solar modules with a maximum additional capacity of 540 W. Each module is an N-type HJT module with 28 cells connected in series. The Gen20 stores 2.4 kWh of energy using two 12V lead-acid batteries.
Water can be filtered and heated using the off-grid energy generated by the device. It includes a 5-micron sediment filter and three 25-foot (7.6 meters) long pipes. The dry weight of the Gen20 is 450 pounds (205 kg), but it can be reduced to 242 pounds (110 kg) for easier transport by disassembling the modules.
When the tank is filled with 50 gallons (190 liters), the device weighs 891 pounds (405 kg). Power Panel states that the entire system can be set up in less than 2 hours.
