The La Jolla Institute of Neuroscience in California, USA, has successfully developed a new robot with 20,000 functional brain cells that operate entirely based on biological principles, meaning that the robot’s actions are not pre-programmed.
This robot, named Darwin VII, is equipped with legs for movement and features a camera for observing, a microphone for hearing, sensory devices for smelling, and mechanisms for walking, head movement, and other engaging actions. The robot is capable of navigating through a room filled with obstacles, grasping these objects, and detecting scents.
Notably, it has a strong preference for smelling and can distinguish between blocks with appealing scents and those with unpleasant odors.
