A deep-sea creature discovered off the southeastern coast of Australia has left internet users puzzled after images of it went viral on social media. Its grotesque appearance resembles something out of a horror movie.
Fisherman Jason Moyce stumbled upon this bizarre-looking creature during a fishing trip. He stated that this is the “ugliest sea creature” he has ever seen in his years at sea.
“This is the ugliest fish I’ve ever seen,” Jason Moyce said.
Jason Moyce, known online as Trapman Bermagui, discovered the “monster” off the coast of Bermagui.
The strange creature has bulging eyes, numerous spikes on its face, and several other odd features. The fish has a pink body, a wide mouth that nearly covers its entire face, and sharp teeth.
After sharing the photo on social media, it garnered significant attention from netizens.
Both Jason Moyce and the captain of the boat he was on were unsure of what the creature was.
“I’m not sure if this is a blobfish. It usually lives in deep waters off the coast of Bermagui. I think this is the ugliest fish I’ve ever seen,” Jason Moyce remarked.
The fish that Jason Moyce caught was in waters 540 meters deep and weighed about 4 kg.
James Maclaine, the fish curator at the Natural History Museum in London, stated: “It looks very much like a fish from the Lophiidae family. The fish has a lure that it uses to catch prey, located between its eyes.”
“This is definitely a nightmare,” “I think it’s a anglerfish, but they all have a rather frightening and eerie appearance,” “Let’s return the fish to its natural habitat,” “That face is too horrifying,” commented netizens.
According to some experts, the blobfish is a deep-sea fish belonging to the Psychrolutidae family. It resides in deep waters off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania, as well as around New Zealand.
The fish typically has a short body, about 30 cm long, living at depths of 600 to 1,200 meters, where the pressure is 60 to 120 times greater than at sea level.
While there are various suggestions about what species this fish might belong to, no one currently knows exactly what this “ugliest” sea creature truly is; it remains an unsolved mystery.
