On June 2, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced plans to launch two new scientific missions to explore Venus between mid-2028 and 2030, aimed at studying the atmosphere and geological history of the “closest neighbor” to Earth.
NASA will invest $500 million in these two missions.
NASA stated it will provide up to $500 million for the development of the two missions, named DAVINCI+ and VERITAS.
According to the announcement, the DAVINCI+ mission will study the composition of the atmosphere on Venus, helping to uncover knowledge about the atmospheric formation processes on this planet.
Additionally, this mission will also be tasked with capturing high-resolution images of the geological features on Venus.
Meanwhile, the VERITAS mission will help map the surface of Venus, which will aid in determining its geological history and finding answers to why this planet has developed a surface so different from Earth.
