The Nhổn – Hà Nội Station metro line, elevated section, is set to commence commercial operations in July 2024. This line runs through a major roadway with a high volume of vehicles, frequent congestion, and a dense population.
The Nhổn – Hà Nội Station urban railway project (the pilot urban railway line of Hanoi, section from Nhổn to Hà Nội Station) is 12.5 km long with a total investment of 34.826 trillion VND sourced from ODA funds. The project began construction in 2010 and was initially scheduled for completion in 2016.
After multiple delays, the new completion date for the entire line is set for 2027. The elevated section is expected to begin commercial operations in July 2024. As of now, the elevated section has reached 99.93% completion and has been undergoing trial runs since March 2024.
The elevated metro section of Nhổn – Hà Nội Station is 8.5 km long and passes through four districts: Bắc Từ Liêm, Nam Từ Liêm, Cầu Giấy, and Đống Đa, with eight stations: Nhổn, Minh Khai, Phú Diễn, Cầu Diễn, Lê Đức Thọ, Quốc Gia University, Chùa Hà, and Cầu Giấy. This route frequently experiences congestion and has many intersections that are known traffic black spots.
Once operational, the Nhổn – Hà Nội elevated metro line will run 16 trips per hour in both directions during peak hours, with a maximum capacity of 7,552 passengers per hour per direction.
The elevated metro line has a direct route into the city center, passing through densely populated areas with high construction density, numerous high-rise buildings, offices, and various schools and universities.
