The metro line 2 urban railway project, segment Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao, has a length of 11.5 km. Upon completion, numerous urban areas will benefit, making it easier to travel from the suburbs to the historic city center.
The construction project of urban railway line 2 (Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao section) measures 11.5 km in length (of which 8.9 km is underground and 2.6 km is elevated) and includes a Depot area. The project consists of 10 stations (3 elevated stations and 7 underground stations). The project investor is the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board.
Initially, the project was scheduled to commence construction in 2009 and be completed by 2015. However, due to project adjustments, the timeline has been extended to 2009 – 2031. The original total investment was nearly 20 trillion VND, which is now projected to be adjusted to over 35 trillion VND. The increase is due to changes in investment scale, fluctuations in prices of fuel, materials, equipment, labor, and changes in wage policies…
Once operational, the metro line 2 segment Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao is expected to help reduce the number of private vehicles, decrease environmental pollution, and enhance the public transport network of the city. More importantly, the project will connect the airport, suburban areas, and new urban districts of Hanoi to the historic city center. Additionally, the line will serve as a circular route to efficiently transfer passengers and connect with other metro lines.
The project includes the Xuân Đỉnh depot area covering 17.5 hectares. The depot is adjacent to the residential area of Xuân Đỉnh and the Nam Thang Long Urban Area (Ciputra Urban Area). The line begins at the Nam Thang Long station (station C1), located very close to the depot.
Currently, the depot area has completed land clearance for all agricultural land, institutional land, and defense land. However, for residential land, procedures for land counting and clearance are still ongoing. Approximately 92% of the elevated station area has been cleared, while 79% of the underground station area has also been cleared.
From Xuân Đỉnh Depot, the line runs along Xuân Tảo street, intersecting with Hoàng Minh Thảo street, where there will be the Ngoại giao đoàn station (station C2).
The line continues along Xuân Tảo street, into the middle of the Nguyễn Văn Huyên road extension, crossing over the Tây Hồ Tây Urban Area (Starlake Urban Area). The Tây Hồ Tây station (station C3) is located on this line.
The line continues to turn left into Hoàng Quốc Việt street, where there will be a station at the intersection of Hoàng Quốc Việt and Phùng Chí Kiên, named Bưởi station (station C4). The section from Bưởi station will be constructed underground.
The line will then intersect with the Vành đai 2 road at the Bưởi intersection and then continue onto Hoàng Hoa Thám street.
At the position of Hoàng Hoa Thám – Văn Cao, there is Quần Ngựa station (station C5). At this position, there will also be urban railway line 5 from Văn Cao to Hòa Lạc. The line passes through Thụy Khuê street, where there is Công Viên Bách Thảo station (station C6). At the intersection of Thụy Khuê and Hùng Vương roads, Tây Hồ station (station C7) will be built.
The line continues to Phan Đình Phùng street, where Hàng Đậu station (station C8) is located.
The line continues through Hàng Đường, Hàng Ngang, Đinh Tiên Hoàng streets. At Đinh Tiên Hoàng street, there will be Hoàn Kiếm station (station C9), located right by Hoàn Kiếm Lake. The construction plan for station C9 must ensure it does not violate the protection zone II of the Hoàn Kiếm Lake heritage site, nor affect the safety of cultural properties, preserving historical, cultural, and architectural values… The image shows the projected perspective of station C9 Đinh Tiên Hoàng.
The line continues to Hàng Bài and Phố Huế. At the intersection of Trần Hưng Đạo, Hàng Bài, and Phố Huế, there will be the final station, Trần Hưng Đạo station (station C10), marking the end of the urban railway line 2, segment Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao.
