The farmer behind the world’s largest eggplant is Dave Bennett from the USA. He began planting it in early April. By July 31 of the same year, Mr. Dave decided to harvest it, and the eggplant measured 71.12 cm in circumference and 23.56 cm in length.
All measurements to confirm the record were supervised by Mr. Ivan Hankins from the Weights and Measures Bureau of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. Mr. Ivan stated: “Iowa is a corn-growing state, but it is surprising that we own the largest eggplant in the world. This is a proud moment for the state of Iowa.”
To share this achievement with the people of Iowa, the world’s largest eggplant will be displayed at the Iowa State Fair starting August 8.
The largest eggplant in the world belongs to the American eggplant variety. Previously, Mr. Dave had grown an eggplant weighing 2.54 kg. He continued to use the seeds from that eggplant to plant another crop, successfully growing the heaviest eggplant in the world, weighing 3.778 kg.
