Pregnant women experiencing abdominal pain or bleeding may use 16 g of mugwort leaves, 16 g of perilla leaves, boiled in 600 ml of water until only 100 ml remains. Add a little sugar and divide the mixture into 3-4 doses to be taken throughout the day. Mugwort is known for its ability to support pregnancy.
Mugwort, also known as Artemisia vulgaris L., belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is available year-round, but the best time to harvest the stems and leaves is in June (around the 5th day of the 5th lunar month), and they should be dried in a cool, shaded area. Sometimes, after harvesting, it is dried and ground into a fine powder, and the white fluffy part is sieved out, referred to as “mugwort fluff,” which is used as an acupuncture moxibustion material to stimulate acupoints.
Mugwort has warming, slightly spicy properties and is used to treat menstrual cramps, irregular menstruation, threatened miscarriage, and hemoptysis.
For Regulating Menstrual Cycle: One week before the expected menstrual date, take 6-12 g (up to 20 g maximum) daily, boiled in water or steeped in hot water like tea, divided into 3 doses throughout the day. It can also be consumed in powdered form (5-10 g) or as a concentrated extract (1-4 g). The herb does not have a stimulating effect on the uterus in pregnant women, thus does not cause miscarriage.
For Irregular Menstruation: Each month, starting from the first day of menstruation and during the menstrual period, take 10 g of dried mugwort, add 200 ml of water, and boil down to 100 ml. Add a little sugar and divide into two doses per day. The dosage can be doubled, also in two daily doses. After 1-2 days, you should see results, feeling less fatigued, with redder and reduced menstrual flow.
