According to the Daily Mail, a blood test study discovered that appealing physical traits, such as a symmetrical face and bright eyes, may indicate that the body has a greater ability to prevent diseases. The study, conducted on 152 men and women, was published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
Specifically, scientists photographed 152 unmade-up adults with neutral expressions. Then, 492 other individuals evaluated their attractiveness in an online survey.
The research results showed that the 25 men and 25 women rated as the most attractive in the survey, based on evaluations from the opposite sex, had a higher phagocytosis rate. In cell biology, phagocytosis is the process by which white blood cells “eat” and destroy bacteria before it can cause illness in someone.
Additionally, scientists indicated that men deemed more attractive had more efficient natural killer cells. These cells can destroy virus-infected cells in the body, which may also help individuals eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
For a long time, scientists have stated that attractive individuals tend to be healthier. Some experts explain that healthy skin and large, bright eyes indicate good health, as the eyes of sickly individuals often tend to be smaller and darker.
