Risking It All to Catch a Fawn, Hyena Nearly Gored by Two Adult Antelopes Defending Their Young.
Seeing a fawn just a few weeks old, the hyena immediately charged to attack.
Hyenas, common animals in Africa, play a crucial role in most ecosystems in the region. With their powerful jaws, they have become formidable predators capable of taking down large animals such as zebras, wildebeests, and buffaloes.
For a long time, cunning hyenas have been labeled as cowards that scavenge on carcasses. In reality, they are strong predators that not only scavenge but also frequently hunt and kill prey within their reach.
Observations show that 95% of a hyena’s diet consists of food they have hunted themselves. They can even kill and consume lion cubs, leopard cubs, and other smaller predators when their pack is strong and numerous.
In the video, upon spotting a fawn just a few weeks old, the hyena immediately charged to attack. When the young antelope was bitten on the neck and dragged away by the predator, the male and female antelopes used their sharp horns to charge directly at the hyena in an attempt to rescue their young.
However, the hyena quickly dodged the attack from the pair of antelopes. Not only that, it managed to keep the fawn within its grasp.
With a fatal bite, the fawn could not survive and became prey for the hyena. Witnessing this heartbreaking scene, the antelope pair chose not to risk their lives any further and turned to flee.
