Tommy, a 13-year-old brown Swiss bull from Cheshire, Massachusetts, USA, has recently been awarded the title of the tallest bull in the world.
Tommy is a brown Swiss bull who has lived with the Balawender family on their farm in Cheshire. He was purchased when he was just one day old for approximately $10.
Of course, today this bull is worth much more than that initial amount. However, the Balawender family considers him more of a family member than a mere asset, so they have no intention of selling him.

Brown Swiss cattle typically have a larger build compared to dairy cows, but they are actually a medium-sized breed. This makes Tommy’s large size somewhat unusual.
A typical brown Swiss bull weighs between 580 kg and 630 kg, while bulls can weigh up to nearly 1 ton. Tommy exceeds this standard, weighing over 1,300 kg. Fortunately, Tommy’s size is proportionate to his weight, as he stands at 1.87 meters tall.
Even though the Balawender family knows Tommy is a tall bull, considerably larger than the average of his kind, they never imagined he would one day break a Guinness World Record.
Despite his intimidating size, Tommy is described as a “gentle giant,” calm and docile. This might be because Tommy is a castrated bull, as intact bulls can be extremely dangerous and difficult to control.
Tommy consumes about 13 kg of dry grain, over 34 kg of dry hay, and drinks 130-150 liters of water each day. He is also a “huge fan” of apples, and his owners have spent quite a bit of money to satisfy this passion.
Laurie Balawender told Guinness World Records: “Tommy loves to stroll around the pasture looking for wild apple trees. He is clever enough to know how to nudge the tree to make the apples fall down.”
Currently, the largest domesticated cattle breed in the world is the Chianina. Chianina cattle are known as giant cattle because they are even larger than the Nicker breed, which is famous for its size in Australia.
