According to local residents, the leopard fell into the well while chasing the kitten. Footage captured shows the leopard leaping out of the water well and lunging at the kitten as it tried to defend itself and retaliate.
Faced with the kitten’s calm demeanor and lack of fear, the leopard seemingly lost interest and allowed the kitten to slip away. Officials later safely rescued both the leopard and the kitten from the well without any injuries reported.
The leopard is one of the four big cat species in the Panthera genus found in Africa and Asia. They can grow from 1 to nearly 2 meters in length and weigh between 30 to 90 kg. Females are typically about two-thirds the size of males. Despite being smaller than other big cat species, leopards are formidable predators.
With their camouflage abilities and habit of lurking, they can approach residential areas without being detected. However, habitat destruction and poaching are driving some leopard subspecies to the brink of extinction.
