The “Black Cemetery” of Alaska is shrouded in mystery and fear, causing the disappearance of tens of thousands of people without a trace, surpassing even the infamous Bermuda Triangle.
Our planet is home to countless strange and mysterious phenomena. Despite the relentless efforts of scientists to explore and understand, certain “untouchable” natural areas like the Bermuda Triangle and the Dragon Triangle in Japan continue to harbor numerous bizarre phenomena and have been the site of many terrifying disappearances.
This unsolved mystery, along with others, creates an overwhelming sense of confusion and panic among people.
Referred to as the “dead zone” where 16,000 individuals “vanished” without a trace in 1988, the world once again turned its attention to this mysterious region, dubbing it the “Alaska Bermuda Triangle.”
Alaska – The “Black Cemetery” of Mysteries and Oddities

Alaska, the 49th state of the United States, is twice the size of Texas. It is considered one of the most pristine and mysterious areas in the country, home to 17 of the 20 tallest mountains in the U.S., approximately 100,000 glaciers, and many nature reserves. This region has also recorded 16,000 cases of unexplained disappearances over the years, including passengers on planes, local residents, and tourists.
The corners of the Alaska Triangle are formed by the regions of Anchorage and Juneau in the south and Barrow in the north of the state.
Like much of the state, the interior of the Alaska Triangle consists of treacherous wilderness terrain, including deep forests, steep mountain peaks, high-altitude lakes, and vast desolate areas. While it is not unusual for people to go missing in this region, the sheer number of unexplained disappearances has rendered it more mysterious than ever.
According to the Atlantic magazine, an average of 3,000 people go missing in Alaska each year, with most cases occurring within the Alaska Triangle.
Travel Channel reports that over the past 40 years, the rate of disappearances in the “Alaska Triangle” is 4 in every 1,000 people, meaning that on average, 4 individuals vanish without a trace for every 1,000 people. This rate is more than double the national average in the U.S. Meanwhile, The Manual states that this area has the highest incidence of disappearances in the country. Numerous search and rescue missions are conducted here each year, but the common outcome is: No trace is ever found.
Nearly seven decades have passed since the disappearance of 44 individuals on the Douglas C-54D military aircraft, which vanished without a trace, drawing public attention in the U.S. due to a series of strange supernatural phenomena, including the mysterious appearance of UFOs and shocking disappearances.
The extremely treacherous terrain and harsh weather conditions further contribute to Alaska’s reputation as a “black cemetery”, making scientific intervention difficult.
It is reported that since 1988, 16,000 people have gone missing in the “Alaska Bermuda Triangle.” They “vanished” without a trace, as if they had never existed on Earth.
1. From the first mysterious aerial disappearance in 1950…
January 26, 1950 marked one of the most terrifying days for the U.S. Air Force in the 20th century when 44 crew members aboard a Douglas C-54D military transport aircraft en route from Alaska to Texas disappeared without leaving any trace or debris.
The four-engine transport aircraft, weighing nearly 30,000 kg, suddenly lost signal and vanished completely as if it had popped like a bubble in the air.

Efforts to search for the aircraft by the U.S. and Canadian Air Forces over the following three weeks were in vain, as harsh weather conditions led to tragic accidents involving the search planes.
To this day, the whereabouts of the Douglas C-54D and the fate of the 44 unfortunate individuals remain an unsolved mystery for the U.S. Air Force.
But that was not the end; two decades after that horrifying aerial disappearance, in October 1972, another case of “vanishing” occurred when a small plane carrying two Democratic Congressmen Hale Boggs and Nick Begich went missing while flying over the Alaska Triangle.
400 aircraft scoured the area for 39 days but could not determine the fate of the two Congressmen and the two pilots. Ultimately, it was declared that the four had perished in the plane crash in October 1972.
2. …To equally bizarre explanations

According to scientists, the Alaska Triangle is defined from the northern region of Alaska, Barrow, to Juneau (southwest of Yukon) and westward to Anchorage.
After a series of horrifying and inexplicable disappearances, people began searching for answers. Since there have never been any surviving witnesses to these disappearances, the explanations are just as strange and mysterious as the name “Alaska Bermuda Triangle” itself.
Local residents believe that Alaska is an untouchable domain inhabited by mystical creatures. The Tlingit indigenous tribe believes that the evil Kushtaka spirits are the ones who abduct humans whenever they pass through this land. Kushtaka, meaning “land otter man,” is often referred to as the Bigfoot of the Alaska Triangle. Locals recount that Kushtaka often appears in the guise of a vulnerable person, such as a family member or a child, to lure victims closer to the water. They would then tear the victim apart or transform them into another Kushtaka.

Some believe that the Alaska Triangle is caught in severe tornadoes, meaning it has bizarre phenomena related to electricity, magnetism, electromagnetism, and energy whirlpools as electromagnetic currents. A prime example of such whirlpools is the Bermuda Triangle. However, other places on the planet are also thought to exhibit these phenomena, such as the Hamakulia volcano in Hawaii, the “Devil’s Sea” in Japan, and the North and South Poles.
In 1947, the Star Dust aircraft of British South American Airways vanished while flying from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Santiago, Chile. The accident remained a mystery for over 50 years. In 1998, two Argentinians accidentally discovered the wreckage while climbing Tupungato. Investigations revealed that the aircraft appeared to have crashed into a vertical ice wall, causing a glacier collapse that buried everything in an instant. This event led many to believe that the treacherous terrain of Alaska is a primary cause of these tragic accidents.
UFO proponents believe that the Alaska Triangle is a secret base for extraterrestrials. They argue that only aliens could be capable of causing such unimaginable mass disappearances.
In fact, there are many reports indicating that UFOs have appeared in this remote area with harsh weather conditions. However, the FBI has repeatedly issued contradictory conclusions. This adds to the mystery of the Alaska Triangle, making it even more enigmatic.
A report from 2007 indicated that the number of missing persons in this area continues to rise. As many as 2,833 individuals (both locals and foreigners) have been reported missing in the Alaska Triangle.

Scientists temporarily explain that Alaska is also famous for its majestic glaciers—massive ice formations riddled with holes like honeycombs, featuring hidden caves that could accommodate an entire house or even a skyscraper. The harsh weather conditions (dropping as low as -30 degrees Celsius), combined with treacherous snowy terrain, active volcanoes, and various wild animal species, are the primary reasons why people have lost their lives or gone missing when they wander into this area.
