A South Korean company has created a collar that uses artificial intelligence to translate pet barks into emotions.
The product, named Petpuls Smart Collar, was first introduced by Petpuls, a software company based in Seoul, South Korea, in 2020 as part of a crowdfunding project.
According to the product’s crowdfunding page, the collar helps owners better understand and bond with their pets, while also enabling them to meet their pets’ needs more effectively.
In a press release, Stella Jang, CEO of Petpuls Labs, shared the reason behind the company’s decision to develop this special collar.

“Many dog owners cannot be with their pets all the time. We created Petpuls to provide pet owners with a comprehensive view of their dog’s behavior and activity throughout the day,” Jang stated.
“In fact, we often miss small changes, and these changes can provide significant insights into our pets’ health when monitored carefully,” she added.
To develop the collar, researchers recorded over 10,000 barks from 50 different dog breeds and spent more than three years creating an AI program to analyze these sounds.
The device works in conjunction with a smartphone app that delivers information directly to the owner’s phone via Bluetooth. Therefore, owners must be within a 4.5-meter range for the product to function.
The collar features a tracker that identifies one of five emotions that a pet may feel, including happy, anxious, angry, sad, or relaxed. Additionally, the product includes activity tracking capabilities similar to those found in smart wristbands.

Moreover, the product is integrated with a sleep tracking feature, allowing users to gather data on their dog’s rest schedule. With the collar’s features, users can research and monitor their pets’ health based on emotions, activity, and sleep.
