Summer fertility treatments can be twice as effective, according to statistics from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Research indicates that women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) during the summer require less medication to retrieve eggs for fertilization.
Scientists believe that the increased natural light during summer affects hormones, making it easier for women to conceive.
Doctors in the UK have also compared IVF cycles of approximately 160 women and found that 16% became pregnant in the summer, compared to a 7.5% success rate in winter.
However, experts also caution that the majority of women undergoing IVF are older, and delaying treatment until summer may jeopardize their chances of conception due to advancing age.
