The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is collaborating with several relevant ministries to urgently finalize the 9th draft of the Vietnam Space Technology Strategy for the period 2006-2020.
The total estimated cost for implementing this strategy, which the Prime Minister assigned to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to lead since 2003, is approximately 2 billion USD.
The draft strategy outlines key tasks for the development of Vietnam’s space technology by 2020, including training personnel and implementing scientific research activities, technology transfer; establishing a National Space Technology Committee; and building a Space Technology Institute under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
An expert from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology stated that given the current economic conditions, infrastructure, and the level of science and technology, the strategy only proposes a few specific projects that can be implemented in the coming years, such as launching the VINASAT telecommunications satellite (which has been approved by the government with a plan to launch into orbit in 2008, with a total budget of 2.858 trillion VND), and launching remote sensing satellites (expected to be approved by early 2006).
