The Israel Antiquities Authority revealed information about a diver who found the 900-year-old sword off the northern coast of the country.
The waters around Carmel Beach, near where the sword was discovered, have seen thousands of ships passing through from the 11th to the 13th centuries.
According to experts, the sword belonged to a knight from the Crusades. The Crusades were a series of religious wars that took place from 1095 to 1291.

Diver Shlomi Katzin from the Atlit area discovered the sword embedded in the seabed while diving off Carmel Beach.
Along with the ancient sword, Shlomi Katzin also found an anchor and several other items. The diver then brought the sword to the Antiquities Authority for verification, and the agency subsequently transferred the artifact to the National Treasures Bureau.
Nir Distelfeld, an inspector with the Israel Antiquities Authority, stated: “The sword is in perfect condition; it is a rare and beautiful sword. It belonged to a knight from the Crusades.”
The authorities indicated that experts will clean and study the sword carefully, restoring its former brilliance before it is displayed.
The weapon, nearly 1 meter long, was found on the seabed, covered in numerous shells and barnacles. It had been buried under a layer of sand for nearly a millennium.
Kobi Sharvit from the IAA Marine Archaeology Unit noted that the natural covering in the area where the sword was found had attracted many merchant ships, leading to numerous rich archaeological discoveries.
