Upon spotting an antelope approaching, the leopard immediately jumped off the ground to capture its prey.
This thrilling hunting scene was recorded on February 2, at Balule Nature Reserve, South Africa.
The leopard jumps off the ground to pounce on its prey.
Specifically, while on a tour, Steve Jacobson’s guide spotted a leopard lurking on a hillside.
The recorded clip shows the predator lurking and suddenly crouching low, waiting for its prey to approach. As the antelope came closer, the leopard instantly leaped off the ground and pounced on the prey. After a missed pounce, it quickly chased down the antelope and concluded the hunt.
Steve stated: “It was an absolutely amazing sight. I have witnessed other hunts on safari, but never one like this before. We were truly lucky to be at the right place at the right time. Unfortunately for the antelope.”

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the four big cat species belonging to the Panthera genus that inhabit Africa and Asia. They range in length from 1 to nearly 2 meters and weigh between 30 to 90 kg. Females are typically about two-thirds the size of males. Despite being smaller than other big cats, leopards are formidable predators.
They usually hunt using an ambush strategy and will camouflage themselves while stalking their prey. This enables them to get close to their target and attack without expending a lot of energy chasing it down.
