Taking advantage of the dog being sound asleep, a leopard suddenly launched an attack and carried the prey away from the building.
When the opportunity arose, the leopard swiftly grabbed the dog’s neck.
The incident took place in a building in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, and was captured by surveillance cameras.
In the clip, a leopard quietly climbed the stairs and approached a dog lying in front of a house. It patiently waited for about 3 minutes to ensure it could launch the most precise attack.
When the moment came, the leopard swiftly grabbed the dog’s neck. The dog tried to resist but was unsuccessful. Ultimately, the leopard dragged its prey down the stairs. Hearing the noise, the residents opened the door to check, but the leopard had already fled.
The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the four big cat species in the Panthera genus that inhabit Africa and Asia. They measure between 1 to nearly 2 meters in length and weigh between 30 to 90 kg.
Despite being smaller than other big cats, leopards are formidable predators. With their camouflage abilities and habits of stealth, they can approach residential areas without being detected. However, habitat destruction and poaching are driving some subspecies of leopards to the brink of extinction.
