However, this is not the final number for the space travel ticket with billionaire Jeff Bezos.
According to Digital Trends, the auction for the space travel tickets with billionaire Jeff Bezos ended on June 10 with a highest bid of $4.8 million, a significant increase from the previous bid of $4 million just two hours earlier, and $2.8 million recorded a few days prior. The identity of the bidder has not been disclosed.
After the closed auction concludes, Blue Origin, the company responsible for launching the spacecraft for the journey, will hold a final auction at 1 PM on June 12 (U.S. time) via livestream. The highest bidders from the previous round will have one last opportunity to secure the first space tourism seat offered by Blue Origin.
The auction winner will fly to space with Jeff Bezos on July 20.
The final auction will continue until the bidding time exceeds the set limit, or until no one bids higher. After the auction ends, the winner will join billionaire Jeff Bezos for training in preparation for the journey aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft, scheduled to launch from the company’s site in Texas on July 20.
The journey will last approximately 10 minutes, carrying 6 people to an altitude of nearly 100 km above Earth. This trip will provide an exciting experience as participants can view space through the windows and feel the sensation of weightlessness inside the spacecraft.
Following this, New Shepard will return to Earth, landing in the desert with the assistance of parachutes near the Blue Origin landing site in western Texas.
The funds raised from the auction will be donated to Club For The Future, Blue Origin’s foundation aimed at inspiring future generations to develop science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and life in space.
Blue Origin has successfully tested 14 flights using the reusable New Shepard spacecraft since 2015. The company is now ready to take its first crews aboard this spacecraft.
Assuming everything goes as planned, Blue Origin intends to launch its space tourism service by the end of this year with ticket prices around $250,000, comparable to some competitors like Virgin Galactic.
