A completely natural pear-shaped blue diamond weighing 17.6 carats is extremely rare. This is considered one of the most valuable diamonds in history.
A vivid blue diamond was sold for an astonishing price of $43.8 million at a rare jewelry auction at Christie’s in Switzerland, according to CNN.
The diamond affectionately called “Bleu Royal” is set on a ring.
This is one of the rarest diamonds ever unearthed. With a weight of 17.6 carats, this piece of jewelry has an estimated value of up to $50 million before it was sold.
“This stone sold for nearly $44 million, which is an enormous amount considering what is happening in the world today,” said Rahul Kadakia, head of international jewelry at Christie’s, to CNN.
Max Fawcett, head of jewelry at Christie’s in Geneva, stated that this diamond is unique because it features a deep blue color and a perfect pear shape without any need for alteration.
“That is why we strive to attract collectors from around the world to come here. We are thrilled with this result,” he added.

Vivid blue diamonds weighing over 10 carats are extremely rare. Since Christie’s was established in 1766, only three such stones have ever been auctioned – all occurring in the past 13 years, according to SCMP.
