Eating a variety of broccoli, potatoes, oranges, apples, and radishes may help enhance memory. Research conducted by scientists at University College London (UK) indicates that extracts from these five fruits and vegetables contain compounds that act similarly to medications for Alzheimer’s disease (a form of dementia).
Most current Alzheimer’s medications function by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that degrades the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. The five fruits and vegetables mentioned above can resist acetylcholinesterase due to their content of glucosinolate compounds. Therefore, consuming these fruits and vegetables can help prevent the decline of acetylcholine levels in the central nervous system, thereby reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
