The statue of Pharaoh Tutankhamun found in his tomb |
Egypt plans to X-ray the mummified remains of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in hopes of discovering the cause of the young king’s death.
Pharaoh Tutankhamun ruled Egypt 3,000 years ago and died while still a teenager.
Zahi Hawass, the head of the team, stated: “We will learn about any illnesses and injuries he suffered, as well as the true age of this king. We will be able to answer the question of whether this king died of natural causes or was murdered.”
Archaeologists will remove the king’s remains from the tomb to conduct scanning techniques, a process that will be completed by the end of the year. This technique will create a three-dimensional X-ray image of Tutankhamun’s body.
Previous studies indicated that Tutankhamun died from a blow to the head. The mystery surrounding this king deepened when one of the first individuals to enter his tomb died after being bitten by a mosquito.
It is believed that these individuals fell victim to the curse of the pharaohs. However, scientists believe that a disease present in the tomb was the actual cause of the archaeologist’s death.
