Forecast for the next 24 hours: The typhoon is moving northwest at a speed of about 10 km/h and is entering the East Sea, with the possibility of strengthening.
By 7 AM tomorrow, the center of the typhoon will be approximately 740 km east of Hainan Island (China), with its intensity increasing to levels 9-10, and gusts up to level 12.
In the next 24 to 48 hours, the typhoon will change its direction to the west, moving approximately 10 km each hour as it enters the East Sea, with the potential for further intensification.
By 7 AM on September 5, Typhoon Yagi will be about 400 km east of Hainan Island (China), with an intensity of levels 11-12 and gusts up to level 14.
In the next 48 to 72 hours, the typhoon will continue moving westward, with the intensity likely to increase.
By 7 AM on September 6, the center of the typhoon will be over the waters east of Hainan Island (China), with an intensity of level 13 and gusts at level 16.
From 72 to 120 hours thereafter, the typhoon will primarily move in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 10-15 km/h, with the potential for further intensification.
It is forecast that around the afternoon and evening of September 3, Typhoon Yagi will enter the East Sea, becoming the third typhoon to operate in the East Sea this year.
From September 3, the northeastern waters of the North East Sea will experience increasing winds up to level 6, with winds near the center reaching levels 8-9, and gusts exceeding levels 11-12, resulting in strong sea disturbances.
“Forecasts indicate that from September 4 to 6, Typhoon Yagi could reach very strong typhoon levels in the northeastern East Sea, with maximum winds potentially reaching levels 12-13 and gusts at level 16 near the center of the typhoon.
In the next 24 hours, the eastern waters of the North East Sea will see waves rising to 2-4 meters, with waves near the center of the typhoon reaching 3-5 meters. Subsequently, these could increase to 5-7 meters. The seas will be extremely rough, posing significant risks to vessels.” – the meteorological agency warned.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, head of the weather forecasting department at the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, stated that as the typhoon moves into the East Sea, the conditions of wind, air pressure, and sea surface temperature in the area are around 30 – 31 degrees Celsius, facilitating its intensification.
“As of the afternoon of September 2, weather forecasting centers in Vietnam and internationally agree that upon entering the East Sea, Typhoon 3 will primarily move westward, showing a trend of intensification.
All forecasts suggest that Typhoon Yagi will be strongest when it is in the eastern region of Hainan Island (China), though there are significant differences in predictions.
“Forecasts from Japan indicate the maximum intensity could reach level 13, with gusts at level 17; predictions from China and Hong Kong foresee the maximum typhoon intensity at level 15; while the US forecasts level 16 (super typhoon), with gusts exceeding level 17.” – Mr. Huong added.
