Yesterday (October 30), Yahoo officially launched the beta version of Yahoo Messenger 9.0 (YM 9), featuring several notable improvements. The most significant of these is enhanced support for the Vietnamese language.
Specifically, the Yahoo Messenger 9.0 version has added the capability to play audio and video files, transfer large files, support more languages, and a host of new tools for the Yahoo Messenger instant messaging service.
Now, the language support list for Yahoo Messenger includes six new names: Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and India. Yahoo has identified these as emerging markets with significant potential.
Yahoo has impressively “created something new from the old” in the user interface of Yahoo Messenger 9.0. Many interface features resemble those of the Yahoo Messenger version for Windows Vista.
Numerous features in Yahoo Messenger 9.0 are similar to those found on social networking sites or multimedia content sharing websites. Notably, there is now a larger space for user avatars in the contact list. Additionally, users can directly share videos or images within the chat window.
Furthermore, with Yahoo Messenger 9.0, users can forward chat content to their mobile phones. This means that if a user is chatting on a PC and needs to go out, they can configure the chat to be forwarded from the PC to their mobile device.
“This solution will make it easier for users to maintain a continuous connection with friends,” said Sabrina Ellis, Vice President of Yahoo Messenger at Yahoo. “We have also added a range of features aimed at individual users, and we expect great things from the multimedia content sharing feature.”
It can be said that this move by Yahoo is part of its ongoing efforts to assert its position and maintain competitiveness as formidable rivals begin to delve deeper into the instant messaging market.
