China’s Yutu-2 Rover to Investigate Mysterious Cubic Object Discovered on the Moon
According to Sputnik (Russia), Andrew Jones, a journalist specializing in China’s space program for many years, reported that China’s Yutu-2 rover will investigate a mysterious cubic object it previously detected on the Moon.
On December 3, journalist Andrew shared images captured by the Yutu-2 rover in the Von Kármán crater on the far side of the Moon. One of the photos shows a peculiar object that Chinese astronomers have dubbed the “mysterious house.”

The current viewing angle of China’s Yutu-2 rover regarding the “mysterious house” is quite unclear and distant, necessitating closer observation for clearer insights. Cnet suggests that the most compelling explanation for this object could be a Moon rock. The area that the Chinese spacecraft is exploring on the Moon is known for its numerous impact craters and may contain large debris from cosmic collisions.
The journalist humorously remarked that this object is not a mysterious black monolith found in Stanley Kubrick’s film “2001: A Space Odyssey” or an artifact from extraterrestrial beings.
This is not the first time China’s Moon rover has made mysterious discoveries. In February 2019, a month after landing on the Moon, Yutu-2 accidentally discovered a gel-like substance within a crater. Chinese astronomers suspect that this substance may have formed due to meteorite impacts on the Moon’s surface.
As part of the Chang’e 4 lunar lander mission, the Yutu-2 rover aims to help scientists gain a better understanding of what occurs with the geology beneath the Moon’s surface. This spacecraft is tasked with measuring the chemical composition of lunar soil and rocks, conducting low-frequency radio astronomical observations with a radio telescope, and studying cosmic rays. Additionally, the exploration vehicles will investigate the development of mass ejections between the Sun and Earth.
In January 2019, China became the first country to land a space probe in the remote and less-explored region of the Moon. Over the past three years, this space exploration vehicle has conducted more than a dozen experiments and made several intriguing discoveries.
