The struggle for survival in the natural world is always fierce and filled with unimaginable miracles. Some events may seem absurd at first glance, yet they truly happen, leaving many people astonished.
In a video recorded at Kruger National Park (South Africa), a zebra unfortunately fell victim to a crocodile attack. The crocodile clamped down on the zebra’s front leg, causing severe injuries and rendering the animal unable to defend itself.
Moreover, there were two hungry crocodiles lurking in the water, waiting to “devour” the zebra. Given the situation, no one believed it could survive.
However, the zebra refused to give up and fought valiantly for its life against the “king of the swamp.” In every possible way, it thrashed about, using its strength to pull the crocodile into shallow water, then fiercely biting at the vulnerable eye area of its foe.
Ultimately, a miracle occurred when the zebra achieved the impossible: It escaped the crocodile’s jaws at the moment the predator relaxed its grip and managed to run ashore with a broken leg.
Although the future remains fraught with challenges, as numerous other predators are waiting, the zebra is truly commendable for its incredible effort.
Zebras constantly face fierce predators such as crocodiles, lions, and leopards..
Despite the harshness of nature forcing zebras to confront fierce predators like crocodiles, lions, and leopards, it is actually modern human life that has the most significant impact on zebra populations, as they have been and continue to be hunted for their skin and meat. In some rural areas, zebras even compete for food with livestock, leading to instances where they are killed for this reason.
Notably, the Cape Mountain Zebra has been hunted to the brink of extinction, with fewer than 100 individuals remaining by the 1930s. Thanks to conservation efforts, this population has increased to about 700 individuals, but the risk of extinction remains very high.
In Vietnamese, the term for zebra simply refers to horses with stripes. In reality, their pattern is more striped (black and white) than mottled. This unique coloration of zebras plays a significant role in helping them survive in harsh conditions.
The alternating black and white colors help zebras reduce up to 70% of the heat absorbed from sunlight. The arrangement of stripes on a zebra is also unique, creating distinct markings for each zebra, similar to human fingerprints. For zebras, these stripes on their shoulders or necks help them recognize members of their herd.
