Typhoon Yagi, the 11th storm of the year, makes landfall in China, hitting Hainan Province with winds reaching up to 234 km/h.
“At 16:20, the storm with wind speeds exceeding 234 km/h made landfall at the coastal town of Wenchang in the city of Wanning,” reported the state news agency Xinhua. According to the meteorological agency in Hainan Province, Typhoon Yagi is expected to move towards Haikou, the provincial capital, as well as the counties of Chengmai and Lingshui.
In response to the storm, Hainan has evacuated over 400,000 people as of noon on September 6. The province raised its storm warning to the highest level on September 5.

Most of the island is experiencing heavy rainfall, with the highest amount recorded in Tianjia Town, located in the Lê Lạc Đông Autonomous County, where over 460,000 people reside. Rainfall in this area reached up to 62.8 mm in just one hour.
The northern part of Hainan is experiencing strong winds ranging from levels 13 to 16, with some cities and counties facing power outages.

The Hainan authorities have instructed residents to remain indoors and ordered the closure of all businesses, markets, public transport, tourist attractions, and schools. The largest airport in Hainan has canceled all flights for the day. All offshore fishing boats have returned to port to avoid the storm.
Similar to Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi have also raised their emergency response levels to the highest, warning residents of the risk of landslides and flooding. Task forces have been dispatched to Guangdong and Hainan to assist with storm response.

Tonight, the storm is expected to pass over Hainan Island, entering the Gulf of Tonkin, and by 1 AM tomorrow, it will be approximately 230 km from Quang Ninh, with maximum winds of level 14, equivalent to 166 km/h, gusting to level 17. By tomorrow afternoon, the storm center is expected to make landfall in the provinces of Quang Ninh and Nam Dinh with intensity levels of 11-12, gusting to level 15.
The storm will then maintain a west-northwest direction, at a speed of 15-20 km/h, moving deep into the provinces of Lang Son, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh…
