Ossur – a company specializing in orthopedic devices based in Iceland – has developed a prosthetic leg that allows users to feel as if they are walking with their real legs.
Equipped with a sensor on the prosthetic leg and a transmission device integrated into a computerized system, amputees using this prosthetic can walk more naturally. They can perform activities that were previously challenging, such as climbing stairs step by step, standing up independently without assistance, and walking easily on various surfaces like sand, snow, and grass. Another advantage of this prosthetic is its ability to reduce energy consumption. (AHN)
