Tropical Storm Maon Causes Damage in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong.
Tropical Storm Maon, with wind speeds of 61-74 km/h (Category 7-8), made landfall in Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province, at 8 PM last night. It then moved inland, weakening into a tropical depression by 1 AM this morning and further deteriorating into a low-pressure area. In the area of Sa Vi Cape, Mong Cai City, a 50-year-old mahogany tree, one meter in diameter, was uprooted and fell across the road.
Branches several dozen meters high fell onto a house across the street.
Many 1-2 year old pine trees near the entrance to Sa Vi Cape were also blown down. According to the statistics from the Quang Ninh Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command, the entire province reported 170 uprooted trees and 20 broken power poles, mainly in the three cities of Mong Cai, Ha Long, and Uong Bi.
Heavy rain after the storm caused landslides on the road leading to Bai Chay Bridge. By this morning, excavators were deployed to clear the road.
The water level of Ka Long River in Mong Cai continues to rise after the storm. Currently, this water level has not caused flooding in the residential areas on both sides of the river.
Adjacent to Quang Ninh, Hai Phong City experienced heavy rain last night, with strong winds knocking down many 30-40 year old trees on Ben Binh Street, Hong Bang District. Downed power lines left several residential areas without electricity from last night until this morning.
This morning, the rain subsided, and activities returned to normal. However, a section of Minh Khai Street in Hong Bang District was blocked due to a phoenix tree lying across from the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports.
Hai Phong is famous for its red phoenix flowers. After the storm, many branches of the phoenix tree in Hong Bang District were broken.
The metal fence of Hong Bang Secondary School, located opposite the central post office of Hai Phong City, was blown down during the storm.
Residents used cars to move fallen branches aside to clear traffic congestion on Tam Bac Street, Hong Bang District. According to the Hai Phong Urban Greenery Company, the city reported 22 fallen trees, many with a diameter of 60 cm, concentrated in Hong Bang District. Additionally, 3 light poles were leaning or down, and 11 electrical cabinets experienced short circuits.
Early this morning, urban workers were cutting and clearing fallen trees to restore traffic on Nguyen Duc Canh Street, Le Chan District.
