Chinese archaeologists have uncovered a complex of 22 tombs believed to belong to the royal family of the Zhou Dynasty, which ruled ancient China around 3,000 years ago.
The site spans approximately 80,000 square meters and is located at Mount Qi in the northwestern province of Shanxi, China. Of the 22 tombs, 10 feature four corridors, a distinct indication that their occupants held high status within the Zhou dynasty.
Additionally, four inscribed turtle shells dating back 700 years were excavated, further linking these tombs to the royal lineage. Archaeologists also discovered a 1,500-meter-long city wall and six remnants of construction works.
The Zhou Emperor is known for founding the Western Zhou dynasty. He is renowned for establishing ranks within the feudal system and moral conventions in society, laying the foundations for Chinese culture.
