In addition to the loss of life, this wildfire has become the deadliest in U.S. history, with at least 101 confirmed fatalities as of the morning of August 16.
Although the fire has been brought under control, officials indicate that harsh conditions have made it difficult to search for victims, with firefighters only covering about 3% of the search area so far.
Furthermore, forensic teams are still struggling to identify victims found among the debris, as many have been so severely burned that they are unrecognizable.
