Unlocked by fingerprint, the Biofire Smart Gun helps prevent the risk of harm if it accidentally falls into the hands of criminals or children.

“The smart gun is only usable by its owner, so it won’t lead to tragic outcomes if it falls into the hands of children, criminals, or anyone else,” states the Biofire Technologies website.
For users, the Biofire Smart Gun operates like any other firearm. The difference is that it includes biometric tools for recognizing the owner’s face and 3D fingerprints.
It functions even when the user is wearing gloves or a face covering. To unlock the smart gun, users simply need to pick it up.
The gun has no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GPS onboard. Integrated infrared sensors in the grip keep the gun ready for use continuously, preventing the need for repeated authentication by the user.
Additionally, the gun allows for multiple user registrations and the personalization of its settings.
The gun operates on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and uses encryption technology to ensure that it cannot be modified into a conventional firearm.
In the United States, accidents, murders, and suicides involving firearms are the leading causes of death among children and teenagers, according to a report by the New England Journal of Medicine in 2022.
