A massive flock of gold-marked crows was spotted flying closely together in the Swiss Alps above Ardon.
The sighting of a flock of hundreds of gold-marked crows flying together in the Swiss Alps above Ardon on April 15th has caught the attention of many locals, tourists, as well as scientists and environmental conservationists. This event serves as a testament to the biodiversity and richness of this high-altitude region.
Gold-marked crows are a species of bird in the Corvidae family. They are characteristic of high mountain regions, primarily found in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Considered the highest nesting bird in the world, gold-marked crows can live at altitudes of up to 6,492 meters.
Gold-marked crows are generally stable residents; however, during periods of food scarcity, they do migrate. With their “superb” flying skills, these crows can ascend to heights of 8,077 meters even in harsh weather conditions. This remarkable ability has led to them being referred to as “soldiers of the sky” due to their soaring capabilities.
