Israel has reported the first case of ‘flurona’ in the world, a dual infection of Covid-19 and influenza, according to Arab News on December 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, Israel has begun administering the fourth vaccine dose to the most vulnerable populations against Covid-19, becoming one of the first countries to do so as it braces for a wave of infections caused by the Omicron variant.
Israel, which led the global vaccination campaign in 2020, will provide the fourth vaccine dose to immunocompromised individuals, along with the elderly and staff in care homes.
The rollout of the fourth dose started at Sheba Medical Center in Israel on the morning of December 31, 2021, and is being given to heart and lung transplant patients.
Currently, there are about 22,000 Covid-19 patients being treated in Israel, with more than 90 of them in extremely serious condition. The country has reported at least 8,243 deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
